An impulse buy, this was hard to put down; the protagonist is a former getaway driver who gets lured back in for a job when his family slip into precarious financial circumstances. Things go south thanks to the rest of the crew and he's forced into a situation that puts his family at risk, threatens his relationship with his wife and leaves him torn between the adrenaline of his former life and the stable, loving environment that he's struggled to create.

Loved this so much! I am a fan of this author from now on. Loved the audio version.

A man can’t be two beasts at once.

“The thing about loving someone was that they knew all your pressure points. They knew all the spots that were open and raw. You let them into your heart and they cased the place”

An action packed thriller

Well developed characters and a solid heart pounding plot make this book impossible to put down. The way Mr. Cosby writes had me playing the movie in my head while I read. I can't wait to read more of his works in the future!

3.5. Very good character development but a LOT of violence. Totally understand that is part and parcel of this genre but probably just not my thing? Still enjoyed it!

Wow.. Just wow!! The best crime/mystery fiction I’ve read in sometime. Blacktop Wasteland is a story of a man trying to achieve The Great American Dream. He tries his best, but sometimes he gets pulled down, because the paths he takes to achieve that dream, aren’t commonly approached; some might even say he is out of bounds. Cosby has done a marvellous job in framing each and every part of the story! An author to watch.

Thank you Flatiron books, Netgalley for the ARC. This is my own honest opinion.

I love, love, love this author! He is one of my new faves! He writes thrillers that keep you on the edge of the seat, but leave you taking something away, emotionally.

Once again, amazing characters that keep your reading more and needing to know them. Leaving you feel as if you so know them.

Bo has to figure out if he will follow in his father's footsteps, and live the fast paced life of crime; or if he will be the father and husband his family deserves. He knows he can't do both, and that he can no longer straddle the line between both of those opposing options. With an explosive ending that will leave you breathless.

This is the second book that I've read of S.A. Cosby (Razorblade Tears, though published later...was the book that brought this author into my view). I actually loved this book, better.

I love reading Thrillers...and this was outside my usual. This protagonist has done a LOT of shady sh*t, but deep down he's a man that just wants to do right for his family.

Beauregard "Bug" Montage is a hard working man that has been dealt a bad hand in life, but he doesn't make excuses. He just keeps doing his best. He also has a talent...he can build/race cars. This is both a blessing and a curse. The curse part, comes in the way of ... being "the driver" for any type of heist.

When we first meet him, he is presented with a stretch of bad luck in his business, but also his mother's being evicted from her Nursing Home...because of hidden income...which presents itself as a bill of a LOT of money...that Beauregard has to come up with...to keep his mother safe.

Then the bottom drops out. One mistake leads to another, and another, and another. Blood leaking through enemies, acquaintences, friends and even family. When will it stop?

Even his long lost/dead father is hanging around as a spector in his mind...taunting him down a specific path in life, while his wife is trying her hardest to keep her husband near...so that he can be BETTER than the representation of what fatherhood was for him...so their children will know better.

Loved this book. I look forward to reading whatever he comes up with next.
