This book was just....... not good. I can tell the authors decided to take some risks and they did not pay off. I had mixed feelings about Aurora rising but this one was just really yikes.
Pros!
The development of characters and plot was good in the first half
Saedii was actually interesting but her sudden interest in Tyler is less believable
Zila was cool? But she didn’t really do much. So.
Uhhh
Cons!
Dear God were there cons!
About 3/4 through all of that lovely character development was chucked into space just like the squad did with Kal for no fucking reason! Seriously I still have no idea why they ditched him.
Scarlett was the most hands down worst female character I’ve ever read and it is painfully obvious jay kristoff really really thinks he Knows teenage girls. Also this is so clearly his jerk off fantasy idea for what a ~confident sexy maternal woman~ should be
Ok has this man ever talked to a real human woman? I’m not convinced he has.
The “plot twist” with the Eshraven being like “gods” was really not as profound as the authors thought it would be. It was just kinda dumb.
Tyler and Scarlett being half syldrathi is just such a last minute throw in to make these boring ass characters relevant (Seriously if I have to read about the ~great jericho Jones~ again my eyes will roll out of my head).
The ending was just cut off in the middle of a scene where everyone is about to die oh no!!! Except we know they won’t because there’s a third book so it’s like?? The point?? What was it?

I am..... amazed. How did a book do so many things wrong.

“But don't fall in love with me, Zila. I'll just break your heart."
"That does seem consistent with your romantic modus operandi." She pauses a moment before adding, "You are also too tall for me."
I blink at that. "Wait… you like girls?"
Zila shrugs, scanning the crowd. "Not tall ones.”

First of all: this book starts with a sort of summary of the first book! And boy did I really appreciate it, also needed it. It's been a while since I read the first book and it had started to melt together with that Sanderson book so I very much appreciate that summary.

The characters, oh man. I had forgotten how much the loss hurt in the previous one and how precious all these Legionnaires are. They all have their own quirks and everything. They are so different, yet so similar. I love them all very much.
Some of them make very dumb decisions, keep very stupid secrets. Causing unnecessary fights. It hurt my little fragile heart. But thus is life! I still got this motherly need to go and give them an earful.

Their adventure continues to save the whole universe. But it gets a lot harder and more dangerous, being hunted by everyone else at the same time. It sure is a wild ride for them. Maybe I am growing out of YA but some times it all felt a little too much. Too much was constantly happening, none of it good. Yet they somehow managed to make it out of everything alive. Overwhelming might be the right word for it.
But the plot is still good. It was kind of "on the edge of my seat" type of ride. We get some new enemies, whom aren't so "new" after all! A lot of character development, which is a big plus. Though they all are thrown into grown up shoes so they do have to grow up rather quickly. Yes, I know none of them are little kids! But still they have big shoes to fill.

There is still a lot of things that needs to be unraveled. And not any little things, mind me. There is one big HOW, still nagging in the back of my head and I'm a little irritated that the subject wasn't much thought about. Understandably they were under some more critical matters but they all thought about it at some point! I need answers so I guess I will have to get my hands onto the last book then?

All in all I really enjoyed this book. It sure was a wild ride. It is on the faster side with pace, but it fits perfectly! 500 pages gets read in no time.

This was traumatic, but soo good. And the cliffhanger at the end ?!?!?! Omg. I don‘t really know what to say, I really loved listening to this (seriously the production quality of the audiobooks has to be praised again). I love all of them and I just want them to be happy. The new characters are really interesting and I really liked their development. I could imagine some people disliking Auri’s and Kal‘s relationship because it sometimes feels pretty fast, but I actually liked this despite this fact, it was still organic. I loved hearing about Silas backstory, I think she might be my favourite, I hope she gets even more time in the next book. I‘m pining with Finnian for Scarlet, Jesus help me they could work so well together. I considering the plot, its immaculate, there is so much happening and just enough character stuff in there for me to still really enjoy it.

Aurora Burning was a great addition to the aurora rising story, it made me fall even more in love some of the characters - also Zila sounds kinda hot. Anyway, some parts every emotional - it make me want to cry. I loved hearing all the back stories of the main characters - each story had a lot of details that are reference later, Zila's back story was especially sad and I wanted to give her a hug after hearing that.

Audiobook!

SO GOOD! I highly recommend this in the audiobook format as the chapters are written from different character’s points of view and the full cast of readers does an incredible job of bringing each character to life.

The story is full of adventure, action, humor, love, and sadness. I liked learning more about familiar characters and watching them grow. I liked the way that new characters were woven into the story. I felt all of the feels, LOTS of frustration (I know they’re a bunch of teenagers, but the judgement they dish out to one of their squad is so terrible!), and TONS of OH-EM-GEEE at the ending.

I will definitely be reading the next book in this series. Waiting will be hard...
