major TWs for this book!
an important book that illustrates the complexities and evolution that come with being a victim of abuse. a tough, heartbreaking read that grabs hold of you from start to finish. this book is fictional but the story feels all to real as it highlights the reality that a large portion of men are pedophiles. didn’t think i would like this book as much as i did but it ended up being one of the most profound things i have ever read.

Objectively one of the best books I’ve read because it absolutely made me feel something. I’m only knocking off part of a star cause I reserve 5 stars for books with re-readability and I don’t know I can stomach this one again.
It was beautiful, sinister, heart breaking, reflective and I never want to hear about Mr. Strain again.
To me those are the markings of an incredible read and one I highly recommend if you can get past the hard parts.

It’s worth it. It WILL have you talking, it WILL have you thinking and it WILL have you feeling.

Such an incredible job by this author.

I managed to make it through this book without crying but started sobbing as soon as I finished the last line.

Very difficult read, for obvious content reasons but also because you have to watch a grown woman constantly sabatoging any/all chances of her own healing, and never maturing because of her repressed state of mind. I feel like it ended sort of abruptly and could have explored her healing a bit more instead of just being a trauma dump. Anyway now I’m going to read a light romcom now for a palette cleanser because PHEW.
