I really wanted to like this book more. It had flashes and glimpses of brilliance. The descriptions of time and place are great. But some parts of the story were just so down a rabbit hole. Pun intended.

I rate this a 2.7. This one took a while for me to get through… I LOVE a good mystery/whodunnit, but this one was really predictable and slow. I didn’t feel any excitement while reading it and wanted to put it down so many times.

Good book! Knew the dad was going to be a creep. I found that her constant memory vignettes were very distracting and I ended up skipping a lot of it.

Now I want to know more about the true story behind it! I was able to guess what was going on pretty early in the book but still enjoyed the read.
I do recommend if you’re into thrillers/whodunnits.

Quick read I got through in a day. The writing was engaging and the characters were imperfectly perfect. I wasn’t surprised at all by any of the twists…but I did like the feminist undertones telling us all to throw up two middle fingers to misogyny.

2.5* - Engaging enough but an entire other “thread” to the story that was really not relevant… so it was a disconnect. I figured out the *twist* to that part- but it wasn’t related… it was an odd theme to throw in, I’m unsure why it was even there…

Funny- as I was marking this book off another book by the author sounded familiar- I realized I read it & didn’t like it for almost the same reason… an entirely different story than the story the book was about

Page-turner with small details from the 70s that makes the writing fresh and authentic.
