“Grief is one big, gaping hole, isn’t it?…It’s everywhere and all consuming. Some days you think you can’t go on because the only thing waiting for you is more despair. Some days you don’t want to go on because it’s easier to give up the to get hurt again.”

This book was so devastating and super emotional.

This was absolutely amazing.

Definitely did not intend to read about a school shooting so close after the tragedy in Uvalde. But, this was an amazing piece that took the incident from different points of view both inside and outside of the massacre.

I think this is a great story that could possibly help to guide healing after an incident like this. The discussion questions at the end are also very well thought out and helpful for discussions on not only the story but how you add a person feel about the events that take place

This book sucked me in and I finished it in one setting. It's super intense and the way the chapters cover small blocks of time and hop between the 4 main characters, means that it reads really quickly. Being centered around a school shooting, there is a lot of violence and a lot of things that might make this difficult for many readers. Lots of potential triggers. A very gripping and heartbreaking read.

i have some mixed feelings about this book. it was absolutely terrifying and heartbreaking and while i did feel like i truly felt their emotions during the story, it was a little hard to follow at some points. i appreciated the different povs that showed different trauma responses but it was a little hard to connect with the characters. i think the author was trying to do too much with this story. with the shooting and how all of the mcs had relationships with the tyler, the relationship between autumn and sylv was kind of rushed and it wasnt even clear they were dating until she explicitly said it. plus the random social media aspects were really weird and kind of broke the tension.

although i did appreciate reading a book by an actually autistic author :))

Incredibly well written with great character depth. Although there was a fair bit of exposition, it is understandable that, in their situation, the characters would choose to focus on certain things. I thought that the romance which developed in during the present was slightly unbelievable but Nijkamp really managed to capture the complexity of character and intertwining depth of relationships. And sadly it was terrifyingly chilling how realistic the story was. There are no happy endings in a story like this, and no one ever comes out unharmed. Don’t read this one before you go to bed.
