I read through the reviews before writing this, and I feel as though this book deserves a little justice. I agree with the majority for this one, the characters were flat, the motivation for the shooter was just cheesy and disrespectful to real life scenarios, and the relationships were a little hard to keep track of (if you're slow like me :D).
That being said, I did genuinely enjoy this book. I didn't expect the plot twists at the end, Spoiler(Tomás and Tyler dying was definitely unexpected, and Tyler shooting his own sister?? What??). I did feel a small rush of adrenaline as I traversed through this book, and my heart raced faster as I got to the end. I definitely enjoyed the small povs that leave you hanging at the edge, forcing you to continue to find out what happens next. The writing style of this book was great. Although, as I said earlier, this book will most likely not match up with real-life school shootings, it was a great read, and I would recommend it with a warning of the fantasy-based motivation and Spoilerstand-off between Tomás and Tyler. (Because who really tells the guy with the gun that "sweaty chic" doesn't suit him?? It's incredibly unrealistic. It's like Tomás' survival instinct decided to save itself and jump out the window). But anyways.

TW: shooting, suicide (not graphically depicted but enough that you know what happens), injuries, blood

BOTTOM LINE:
Well-written book that makes your heart race faster. Would recommend to people with a warning that it is loosely based on real-life.

AGE RATING:
14+ (or if you're mature enough, it's up to you)

This book revolves around the POV of 4 main characters experiencing a school shooting. Obviously a difficult subject to write on and one that’s going to upset people one way or the other. I’m left feeling bummed out, but in a satisfying way. I don’t love every aspect of this book, however I think the author did what she intended to. To invoke emotion through writing is a talent

This was absolutely amazing.

Definitely did not intend to read about a school shooting so close after the tragedy in Uvalde. But, this was an amazing piece that took the incident from different points of view both inside and outside of the massacre.

I think this is a great story that could possibly help to guide healing after an incident like this. The discussion questions at the end are also very well thought out and helpful for discussions on not only the story but how you add a person feel about the events that take place
