A Dog at the Door
Spells trouble for Carly Silver, even as she rescues it from the snowy cold. Then the dog turns into a man and sends her tumbling down into a world filled with chaos and romance.
Fun and enjoyable, I am definitely looking forward to more from the author.
Four stars!

First book by the author. Absolutely hilarious interplay between the characters. I laughed so hard getting through it! Cute story, looking forward to grabbing the second one. The third was far more serious then this one, though it was good as well.

I quite enjoyed this book! It's very slow paced, and not necessarily for everyone. I found the language reminded me of a historical fiction, even though the book is set in present day New York. That said, I got used to the language and the slower pace, and I couldn't put the book down!
The book also gets a lot more fantastical/magical than I was expecting. From the description, it seemed like the book would be just about warring werewolf clans/packs/whatever they're called, but there's also a whole lot more going on than meets the eye (don't worry, no spoilers!). Kendra Leigh Castle created an interesting mythology in this book, and I'm curious to find out what happen in the subsequent books in this series!

Gideon MacInnes knows what his duty is, as a werewolf he is next in line to be the Alpha of the clan. Despite his awareness, Gideon travels the world trying to come to terms with his fate, ending up in upstate New York. Always alert, Gideon is caught off guard and attacked by three rogue wolves who have been sent to kill him. Injured and in wolf form, Gideon finds himself on the doorstep of a woman who smells like his mate.
Carly Silver can't believe she carted the huge dog that was injured to her home. He will probably eat her in his sleep. but she couldn't let the him die alone in the cold. Waking up and finding she hasn't been eating is reassuring, waking up to a naked man in her bed has her flipping out, because she knows that side of the bed has been cold for far too long.
Humorous shifter tale, has a bit of everything with intrigue, romance, humor. Gideon doesn't want to be mated, correction...he does but he cannot properly mate the fragile human, Carly He believes he is doing right by her, but never underestimate the will of another. I thought this was a fun read, wanted to throttle Gideon a few times but the author more than makes up for it in finding creative ways to counter Gideon's naughty behavior.

It's an okay book, but the premise should make it awesome. Highland Romance X Shifter romance AND parallel worlds is an awesome setup, but then there's weird things that were out of date ideas even in in 2008, like big dogs being evil demons and vanilla being a female food according to our Masculinity So Fragile male lead.
It's kind of creepy how "fun and silly" the main female characters treat a man being noncensensually groped and sexually harassed by women. It makes me wonder if the author herself is a creep who does that sort of thing, or else why would it be a joke to the other characters who are established to be morally good people in this book? Even between bits of weird sexism the story is just mediocre.
The villains are so melodramatic and don't really even have any goals of their own besides being bad guys. Technically they have a goal they are working towards, but their only reason for it is to be bad, not really to get anything emotionally out of it.
The ending section all of a sudden gets really good: fast paced, good plot, great emotions and action. I'd say the first 2/3 of the book are */5 stars, while the last 1/3 is ****/5 stars. Chapter 14 is where the good stuff starts.

DNF at pg. 167. I became extremely bored and I like paranormal romance but this was very Wattpad-fanfic like.
