I hesitate to be harsh because I am a self-published author, too, and no doubt will have my work raked over the coals at one point or another. However, I couldn't get past the first three chapters of this book. All I could think, as I tripped over flowery prose, was that the author had a thesaurus within easy reach as he wrote. Consequently, the MC comes off as pretentious and the story wallows in over-writing, as they say in Hawaii, "to da max."
