It started out interesting. I liked how The Store was very slowly strangling the town, but after a while it got very repetitive and boring. Once you hear the characters talk about how it’s so bad that no one shops at local businesses anymore, the next time is not as entertaining. The book would have been maybe 2.5/3 stars if there wasn’t so much sexual assault and violence. I feel like it was not needed for the the plot and was just there as extra shock factor. There are other ways to describe how The Store takes control of everyone without writing the manager raping young women. Also, last note, Bill was not that great of a father. In the very beginning, when Shannon is confronted by her mother for her eating disorder, Bill tells his wife that his daughter is chubby. Like…..is he saying that his daughter deserves this eating disorder???? Worthy adversary my ass.
