This book really is just so great. I was obsessed as a young teenager, and I’m obsessed now in my mid-twenties. Also book peeta is just so so special to me 🫶🏻

A really strong start to the series, but truthfully stands very well on its own as a complete, punchy, well told story. There are a few small moments where the pacing slows down a bit too much for my taste, but largely the pacing is very good. I last read the book when I was in middle school and I didn’t expect it to hold up to rereading as an adult, but it proved me wrong very successfully. I feel I can’t comment on the characters much because I know my perception of them is formed by much more than just this book alone.

I inhaled this book when I was 13. Nothing else mattered. Sleep schedule was ruined. God bless.

The world building is really great and also the plot keeps you intrigued even when there’s less action.
I liked Katniss as the main character. She’s brave and smart, just a natural leader that people can learn from.
If you enjoyed watching the movie or just want to start a new series, I think The Hunger Games is great!!

Am I rereading this again post-Songbirds and Snakes? Yes.

Do I feel completely justified in my initial assessment that SoS is written completely differently than THG, and that is part of my distaste for the book? Also yes.

This book remains untouched. One of the very best.

I only read the series once, in college, but have seen the moves tens of times at this point, so it was nice to refresh my memory about what made the books both so different and so special.
