I loved Miwako Sumida from the same author. This one is… disturbing. Because this book features almost adult-minor relationship.
Of Ren who came to a rural town for his sister’s funeral.
He’s also determined to find the truth over his sister’s brutal death. He stayed there for over 6 months, replaced his sister’s position as a teacher in a tuition centre, and lived in a mansion of a local politician his sister last resided.
I questioned Ren who swore he knew his sister, confidently saying “my sister wasn’t like that” but you didn’t really care about her personal life? And the whole Seven Star affair is disgusting! Justifying it as human nature is not okay. At least I want him to be held accountable. The whole book is just him creating a temporary harem. Aside from his flings, another thingthat was falling in love with his own sister? is also sickening.
I love the side characters though, hence the rating.

“Remember this, Ren. Sadness alone can't harm anyone. It's what you do when you're sad that can hurt you and those around you.”
This is the story of a young man whose older sister was killed and left for dead. He travels from Tokyo to a small town where she had been living. He begins to piece together clues in an effort to solve her murder. However, at its heart this book is a character study focused on grief & loss.
The characters are well-composed, the prose is beautiful & minimalist. The pace was a little bit slow, but I still found it enjoyable. The ending was incredible (I teared up). I loved this book, and hope that you enjoy it too!
