I have to be completely honest in saying that I’m not sure if I’m intelligent enough to have understood everything in these short stories. Some of the themes and moments that I felt must be symbolic flew right over my head.

The prose was rich and the author’s ability to build a world was special. I felt like I could see myself in their created landscapes and I loved the descriptions of the natural world. Magical realism was dialed up in a big way throughout each story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Their infusion of magic into the everyday made it feel like a little bit of magic could be found anywhere, something that makes magical realism so special to me.

Dark, lush, and magical, the witch-woman stories collected here sparkle with real magic and the enthusiasm of an artist. Incredible read.

I don't think this book is bad, it just really wasn't for me. I couldn't immerse myself in the short stories well enough to really "get it," and I'm pretty sure it is more of a me-problem than a book-problem.

I didn’t understand what was happening in the stories. I found myself bored and trying to force myself through it. Not for me.
