This book was delightful. It was funny and poignant in spots. I’ve never read anything set in the interwar years (I’m referring to fiction. I’ve read several mysteries set/written then but the point of those was to solve a crime, not to give a portrait of a moment in time.) I don’t generally find that time period to be interesting, particular because it focuses so much of war. And while war looms on the horizon here, it’s not dreary or depressing. It’s almost a snapshot, especially because it was written at a time when WWII was going on, and was meant to be something that captured the time period just before. The characters are all wonderful. Cluny is hilarious and very likable, and her interactions felt normal to me. I’d highly recommend this to any lover of modern classics, or the interwar period.

Liked it pretty well until the ending, which I just didn't see coming and didn't totally agree with.

I was absolutely charmed by Cluny Brown.  Reading it for the first time was a delightful experience.  A newfound favorite!
