There isn't much that I can add to what previous reviews have already said. This is a monumental book, raw and heart-wrenching, so masterfully written. I was moved to tears and moved to absolute rage at the pain inflicted, the injustice, the added abuse caused by the judicial system.

I'm so grateful that Chanel Miller was able to make her voice heard and share her truth. I hope that her words can reach anyone in need of strength, validation and understanding.

This was a truly astonishing and beautifully written book. I hadn't read the witness statement before reading this book, and whenever I think about her reading it out at the end of this audiobook, I shiver every time. The producers chose to leave in the pauses, and voice quivers as she reads it and it is truly one of the most powerful pieces of literature I have encountered in a long, long time. The whole book is very much in this vein too. She opens with doing herself down, frankly, by introducing her limits and spelling mistakes, and all the reasons we might think less of her account, and ashamedly I have to admit I felt a drop in my stomach. Please don't give them this ammo. Please, sell yourself. You shouldn't have to, of course, but this is the world we live in. Please.
But I needn't have worried. Within minutes, it is clear that this brave and creative and intelligent and emotionally literate woman knows exactly what she is doing. The images she conjures up are sticking with me for life. I am in awe of this book, and though it was so tough at times, I do think it needs wider reading. The fact that a book so potentially polarising has such a high rating on goodreads is testament to its power.

One of the best books I've ever read. I'm sad that this book had to be written and the circumstances that led up to this book, but I'm so glad it exists. Chanel Miller is seriously an angel in this world and a beacon of hope.

This book is powerful, beautifully written, and both validating and infuriating. I had to stop reading at times because I was so angry, and of course it made me cry (though not as much as I would have anticipated, honestly). I got to listen to Chanel Miller read the book out loud, and I'm so glad I did. She reads it more slowly than I would have read a physical copy, and I'm grateful for spending the extra time sitting with this book and what happens in it. It made me realize things about some loved ones that I'd never considered before, and it made me realize things about myself, too. I'd recommend this book to anyone (and also recommend you follow @chanel_miller on Instagram because her comics are funny and inspirational and I just love the things she creates).
