emotionally this wrecked me haha had to read it with breaks because it'd get a bit overwhelming... it's so tragic i cant 😭

But on the other hand, in all rationality, the writing didn't sit well with me. It felt like the book needed another revision. There were some scenes that felt like unnecessary fillers? Fillers that could've been taken by something a little more. Content wise maybe i was expecting a biiiit more from Dashner. I wanted more on Newt's character rather than the circumstances he was going through... he kept describing surroundings and other people but i wanted the book to focus on NEWT ONLY

Still enjoyed the book tho fuck u james 😭😭

Wow.... so glad I read this. As a fill in for what happens to Newt during the maze runner series this book brings such depth and understanding to both him as a character as well as the virus in the book itself. As I had already read the whole series I wasn't sure if I would like this, since you know how it ends if you read the series. For me this was a page turner, tear jerker, heart breaking story of the love and compassion a young man has for his friends and his journey of wanting one last great thing to be remembered by. It's hard to read as it is so raw in his thoughts and emotions. If you read the maze runner series you must read this book.
