Somehow I keep running into books that feature animal death. I'm not sure if it's because it's a common trope in paranormal/horror stories but my god it exists for sure in the books I review.
I read this book because goosebumps was really popular when I was a kid and like many people I took a trip down memory lane to all the times I would read goosebumps books or watch the show. Though I don't remember reading this one it was still nostalgic.
It was a cool journey going back to them.
I didn't find it all that scary until I got to the final graveyard scene where all the ghosts gather pointing out how they "All use to live at the death house." how Ray pointed out that he was suppose to watch the family so they didn't find out.
I found it very tense and an interesting scene.
I found it to be a fun spooky read.
Also R.L Stine and a few other authors may be the reason I love the paranormal ha.

Decided to go for a nostalgic reread since I'm apparently so invested in horror and horror-adjacent stories this year, and the first thing that struck me was how short it is??? I guess it suddenly makes sense that R.L. Stine was able to churn these out so fast. The actual story is still pretty solid, hitting classic horror beats softly enough that I can see how it must've been perfect for a recovering scaredy-cat like I was when I read the series as a kid. I've got the next couple books in the original series order queued up, so we'll see if that quality persists.
