Early in the book the author announces she’s a Kantian. Points for knowing herself and honesty, but I ask myself why I even continued to read after that. Like all Kantians, her worldview is dull, rigid, and exhausting. Never listen to anyone who thinks the only way to be moral is to ask what would happen if everyone did what you’re doing. But that is what this author wants. She constantly wrote things like “I think everyone would agree that…” followed by something I of course didn’t agree with. That’s just a boring and alienating experience as a reader.
Lastly, she proved you can be old and dangerously underweight and still repeatedly fatphobic. Ugh

I’m probably like 30 years younger than the target audience but I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was an easy, fun read that was mostly light hearted, and I think the lessons in the book are applicable to anyone at any age. I appreciate hearing the perspective of older people and their understanding of the world, especially when they’re like her and don’t just spend the whole time complaining about how different and worse the world is to them now.
