Things I didn’t like:
1. No world building
2. No new characters introduced in depth, often my favorite part of a second book in a series.
3. The unnecessary love triangle between Hypnos, Enrique, and Zofia was annoying and my least favorite part.
4. I wish we could have seen the characters at the cónclave like it seemed would happen at the end of book 1. That way, we could have been introduced to more characters and have more tension in the story.

Things I liked:
1. The writing style. Beautiful descriptions, yet fast paced.
2. Séverin. I liked him a thousand times more in this book than the first. Laila is an angel. I love these friends and could read a whole book about them just eating cookies. Enrique is my fav. I wish we could have learned more about them.
4. I already know I’ll love Eva in the next book. I wish we’d had more of her in this book. She was very predictable, which I didn’t like but I like what’s coming from her. She’s very interesting.
5. The beginning of the book was *chef’s kiss*

Final rating: 3.5 stars

I'm in between on this book. I really want to give it 3 stars because it kind of fell flat for me but it was so beautifully written that I have to give it 4 I think. The villain of this story was easily predicted for me and that is disappointing for me because I love a good plot twist. I am invested at this point that I wan to finish the series because I want to see where the whole squad ends up. I just hate how Severin treated everyone. I know that he thought he was doing good but it really got on my nerves.

Did not love or enjoy this as much as the 1st book but the ending! what an unexpected turn of events
the romance was beautiful, the hurt, the angst, and their chemistry.. absolutely brilliant!
i was still as lost in this book as the first one, or even worse, i don't know where the problem is, or why can't i grasp this world or understand it
i will probably finish the series, i need to see more of Zofia and enrique, the other 2 are doomed but i want to know what happens to severin
i felt like i didn't have enough of Severin in this book, i mean he was grieving the loss of his most beloved but his grief took over him and he was lost, his crew couldn't reach him. I believe the best part of the 1st book was their interaction, which lacked here and for obvious reasons. The miscommunication and misunderstandings were annoying, i know the story has to move forward somehow but i didn't enjoy those moments.

This took a while for me to read. While Roshani Chokshi weaves in many clever historical facts to slowly reveal the mystery at the end of the book and utilizes a plethora of metaphors to connect with readers, mostly everything else falls flat.

There are a few fantastic scenes (like Zofia holding a fLAMING SWORD????? HELLO????), but I'm wondering if maybe this series is not for me.
