A few flat characters, and a little too out of the Gillian Flynn playbook for me, but mostly genuine. So many red herrings that it frustrates the reader and lessens the impact of the real twists.

This book was a mix between pretty little liars and a good girls guide to murder. Overall a fast paced easy read that I found very enjoyable. Yes, the twists weren’t the most realistic but what thriller is. My only complaint was that I think there were too many mysteries going on at one time. It did take a while for the twists to be unraveled but once they were they just kept coming even until the last paragraph.

Second time through and it still gave me goosebumps

There are worse things in this world than monsters, and somehow, they always manage to find me

Tess and Callie were just nine years old when they became wrapped up in a danger that took the life of someone close to them. It's been almost ten years since that night, and the two best friends haven't spoken to each other—Tess moved away from the ghosts and Callie rarely stays sober long enough to remember them. When Tess has to come back to Fayette to say goodbye to her dying jailed father, the secrets she and Callie buried start coming up out of the ground. Now unlikely allies, they set out to unravel the mysteries that destroyed so many before the monster kills someone else.

You may think you know what you're getting into with The Darkest Corners, but you don't. The synopsis sounds good—at least it did to me—but it's actually very vague and gives no real indication how intricate and intense this book is.

I don't want to say too much because it's truly better to go in blind like I did. It's thrilling, emotional, psychological, mysterious, and incredibly detail oriented. Everything matters, even the things that seem inconsequential. The book doesn't cheat the reader. It's chilling and super fun to be given all the details and try to work out the mystery right alongside Tess and Callie. I loved them both and thought they did an excellent job of carrying the story. The writing is simple, which I think just highlights the complexity of the mystery, and somehow gives more weight to the story. The pacing isn't fast, but it has a way of making you feel breathless as lines are blurred and secretes revealed and you realize nothing—and nobody—is quite what they seem.

It's possible to know - like really know - another human being. But I'm starting to think that most of us never even want to try and know another person until it's too late to save them

Buckle up. This one will keep you turning the pages all night.

Rated 5/5 for a solid, well done mystery that kept me gasping until the end

My biggest worry when I read a thriller is that it might end up being quite predictable. I have the habit of correctly guessing who the killer is quite early on, which can ruin the book for me as it takes away the element of surprise. The Darkest Corners didn't let me down though, this book kept me guessing right up until the very end and I never once figured out what the hell was going on.

Ten years ago, Tessa and her cousin, Callie, helped to put away a serial killer, a man who they believed murdered Callie's cousin. But Tessa has always had her doubts, a worry that she helped put away an innocent man. So when a new body shows up, it looks like she might have been right. This is a read that will keep you guessing, and have you turning the page late into the night, unable to put down the book until you find out the truth.

I found this to be a really engaging and engrossing read, I love a great thriller. I spend my whole time trying to figure out the truth and what is going on. I really did enjoy this and loved how Thomas was able to keep me guessing right up until the very end. I love that she was able to shock and surprise me with the twists that the book took.

3/5 Butterflies

I really did enjoy this book, and the fact that it was able to keep me guessing until the very end. I do feel it went very slowly in the beginning, and wasn't as gripping as I could have hoped. The last half of the book was a lot better though and the pace really picked up. I feel this is going to be a read that crime fans and people who enjoy psychological thriller will really love.

  • I was really bored with this one.

The ending picked up and I definitely didn’t expect for her to be kidnapped as  well.

Thomas is truly a master of the psychological thriller mystery genre, and this is no exception! The twists!! The ending!!- usually I don't like it when all the mysteries aren't fully solved, but the ambiguity of the ending in this case was executed perfectly. There were a couple of details that did seem somewhat awry (attention was drawn to the number of dog bowls, but I don't think that was ever followed up on?) but aside from that, this was brilliant. Especially love how much there was going on, and how well it all came together. What a book!

I did enjoy this book, BUT I was so irritated with the last 50 pages or so. It was a pretty slow book throughout the whole story, and then the ending felt so rushed and almost awkward. So many doors still remain open. What happened with Maggie and Rick? Or Decker?

I NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS.
