All of the graphic content feels “earned”. It’s part of the exploration of homophobia in the Latinx community, esp internalized hatred and shame. But it is very intense and,kim_lommaert's review against another edition

Genevieve was a star for sticking by Aaron through it all. She is correct in that she should not have maintained a relationship with him, but she was a good friend sticking with him through it all.
The neighborhood was such a character for the first half of the book. Learning their games and stories was a gift of storytelling. But it had to come to an end. Aaron leaving his childhood friends behind for Thomas seemed natural as he progressed forward in his life.
Aaron falling for Thomas and wanting this part of him to be erased was heartbreaking. Even more devastating is learning that Aaron has done the procedure before and he was not able to erase being gay. Worse, Aaron now has a disorder and cannot make new memories. He is lost in the past he tried to forget for the rest of his life.
I feel like this is a book I will revisit in the future. To make me more happy than not.
Graphic: Homophobia, Suicide, and Outing
Moderate: Violence
