is there anything better than good short stories? oof. I'm clearly in a lonely moment of life because what I liked best was the mention of a broken dishwasher (ours is broken in exactly the same right now) in a story about a guy who is clearly an asshole and not great dad but who also has no idea how to relate to his adult children who still need so much from their parents at age 30; and the mention of an LA dinner party where one of the guests works at Occidental (my school) in a story about the nanny in a nanny/celeb dad scandal. I'm clearly reading these looking to relate. and finding it! she is such a good, precise writer.

Interesting collection that revealed the discomfort and dissatisfaction of daily life. Even so, I felt like I wanted more. Maybe that was the point?

Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for short stories. This was my first Emma Cline and I will say that she has a knack for finding the tenderness and minutia in everyday life.
