I enjoyed parts of this, but ultimately was left feeling underwhelmed. The ending was a little "nothing", and the big build up to the end of part one was also a tad deflating. 

I didn't find it particularly funny, so still a bit confused about the labels of dark humour etc. But maybe I just didn't get it. 

The narrator had a sarcastic tone that to me suited the character. 

Overall, I think just not for me, even though as I said, I did enjoy parts of this. I think ultimately I just didn't get what it was trying to say.

A complex character study on depression. Bunny is such a relatable person and the author shows a deep understanding of what's it's like living with depression. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending.

I really liked this venture into the sarcastic, dark and twisted mind of the depressed Bunny. On Occation it was hard listening due to the dark subject matter, but that just shows how realisticly the disease is portraied

My lovely soul sister Audra sent me this book, it’s one of her now favorites. It breaks my heart to know how cruel our brains can be, Bunny managed to put into words anger and resentment I have felt at the simple fact that I am alive. I most certainly empathized with Bunny and the many souls we met in the book. It is a story of the harsh reality of trying to live with/be treated for MDD or being treated for mental health in America, period. It was great writing, funny dark humor and raw.

just wow.. this was such reflective, personal, and raw writing. one of the only books about depression that i felt actually portrayed how it feels. I felt connected to Bunny, the way she thinks and the sense of hopelessness is written in a way that, while so so sad, feels hopeful. She made me feel less alone, in a time where I didn’t know I needed it. Very ‘Girl Interrupted’ but still original and I would say more relatable. I could have read another 300 pages about Bunny. While I don’t quite understand the end,

I feel the ending is reflective of the process of getting help, often putting time and money into inconclusive and ineffective treatment, some of us feel as if we are always ‘in treatment’. I think the end is hopeful, and you really get to notice the “inarticulate” Bunny begin to articulate and deal with her feelings and traumas through her creative writing. this book is for anyone who has ever felt alone, isolated, forgotten and exhausted from living with depression or mental illness. Binnie Kirshenbaum has done a fantastic job here.

This is a startlingly accurate depiction of depression. It perfectly balances hopelessness, numbness, and callousness that comes with prolonged depressive episodes. Mentally healthy people should read this to understand how depressed brains operate.

This isn’t really a review; just an extended “content warning”, if you will. This book can be difficult to read, especially if you have mental illness, but there are many beautiful parts to Bunny’s story that make this book worth reading. 

Please proceed with caution if you are struggling with depression as this book may be triggering. I have no idea why the blurb portrays this story as some light, comedic, hilarious telling of depression — while there are several lines I highlighted because they were so ridiculously funny, overall this book is most definitely not a comedy nor even a dark comedy. Rabbits for Food is sad and heart wrenching ... but it is also real and beautiful and I’m so glad I read it. “Isn’t it pretty to think so?”
