It was an intensely complicated world. Tons of world building. I really appreciate the map, the Glossary and race descriptions. I frequently had to reference them. It was pretty slow going for the first 60%. After that the plot really started moving and things were developing. Overall I'm very intrigued by this world and story line and I hope the next books can focus on the plot now that the extensive world has been set up.

Excellent first installment. Maevyth irritated me here and there but I look forward to her continued growth over the series. Rykaia was my favorite character!

Very dark book with some pretty heavy topics. Highly recommend looking at all the trigger warnings first. This book has every trope you would want: touch her and you die, one bed, dark and brooding MMC, and mates. Even though I've read these tropes many times, this still ended up being a fresh and new story. I'm usually not a fan of gory and graphic horror scenes, but for this book I made an exception. The world is so fascinating and I loved how the magic system worked. Nothing felt like filler and the side characters were beautifully written as well. It does end on a cliff hanger, though, so be prepared.

I am dying to read the sequel. I love the author's writing style and will absolutely be looking into any other books she's written. Keri, please write quickly 🥹

Interesting magic and world building. It’s a lot of new terminology with different blood lines so if you’re not into world building you might not like this one. There are a lot of triggers of different sorts so be weary if you are sensitive because it can be dark.

It was similar to one dark window but written better.

*Bumped to a 4.5 because it’s been days and I’m still thinking about it*
What. Did. I. Just. Read!?
I honestly don’t know what it is about this book but I couldn’t put it down. I couldn’t decide if I even LIKED it. But I could. Not.put.it.down!
Despite the main characters not even meeting until like 300 pages in- it was still filled with mystery and drama and horrors. I got the shivers so many times from some of the descriptions.
Be aware this is a SLOW burn. But it was worth the wait.

Well written, nicely paced and unique world building. Enjoyed learning about the main characters and they all felt distinct which is nice. Loved the MMC and FMC, who was naive but not stupid or annoying - very refreshing. Loved the slow burn and the mysteries that kept unravelling and how Maeve is slowly coming into her power. Really enjoyable and look forward to the second book!
