I really appreciate that this book is a romance with an ace protagonist, but the story was just okay. I found the pacing of the conversations weird at times and it felt like it was jumping around. All the characters were generally likeable, but I wish there wasn't so much miscommunication between Joy and Malcolm.

first: romance book w ace rep!! joy's (and malcolm's) experience of asexuality is different from my own but that doesn't matter bc ace rep!! mc and sc!! in romance!! and ofc everyone experiences aceness differently. i also liked how the book discussed it several times in-text and how it took others time to understand it and how joy related to it personally and in her relationships

second: i liked how malcolm and joy's close and confusing relationship was in there mixed in with joy and fox's. other reviews complained about it but it was so important. one reviewer labeled it as a qpr and i didn't realize that's what it could be taken as and i liked that reading, and i liked how people can have close friendships like that as well as romantic relationships. i think it was important for joy and malcolm to untangle what they were to each other vs how they do/want to feel about other people in different ways, and i liked how that was explored. i think the suggestion of couples counselling for them was a good one lol

third: i wish there was a little more resolution, especially with malcolm and joy's relationship and their steps moving forward. it did a little to address it but not a ton

overall i enjoyed!
