I did gain some valuable insights and have some cool journal exercises to try. I also like how he actually gave instructions on the next steps to heal or what to look for. However, this book is pretty long, dense, and felt redundant at times. There were instances that made me go, "Oh, I think we have very different ideas on what we should allow to resume and what not to."
Spoiler I think forgiveness is important, but forgiveness does not have to include allowing the other person back into your life. There was a section where he discussed family engaging in no-contact. Perhaps I didn't fully understand his point, but, if a person decides to go no contact, we aren't entitled to an explanation. And we aren't entitled to being in that person's life, even if it hurts or sucks. Idk man, some of the things said made me go, "yeah...okay."

So long winded and could have covered the material in less than half the time.

3.5 stars. Interesting book. I usually avoid reading books on this topic, so it was an interesting read. Author is a psychotherapist who jots down his experience and recommendations post observing many cases. I did not agree with author fully and I do not have enough data points to judge the validity of his methods. However, this book does a great job providing an overview of relationship, subconscious needs, typical fallacies, etc. Definitely wished having read this earlier.

I liked Ch 3 which provides a general overview; read it with a grain of salt. Read this chapter if short on time.
