Although perhaps a little slower to get started than Book 1, Bk 2 delivered action, character development and a real deepening of the world and what was happening. I especially love (and so do my students) when a book can deliver a satisfying ending that promises more to come but does not leave the reader hanging on the edge of a cliff. Looking forward to Bk 3.

8/10, nu jopcik, šitais bija traki labi! (Ahhhh, un atkal vāciņš ir so on point!!)

🌌 "We're finally reading this!" BR with the MacHalo Asylum loonies 🌌

This is what my life had come to: I was now begging my own eyeballs for help, and even that didn’t feel strange.

I didn't lose my mind so much with this but I enjoyed it tremendously!

This never went where I half expected it to go and at first it seemed to be a little adrift without any real storyline in sight. Turned it around though, one of those weird impossible maneuver that cats pull of so effortlessly.

I am eager to see where this goes!

Some Quotes:
Spoiler

‘We paid him for the charm, remember? He’s the one who ripped us off.’
Reichis snorted dismissively. ‘And what did you do about it, Kellen? Just stood there like a halfwit while he pocketed our hard-earned coin. That’s what!’
To the best of my knowledge, Reichis had never actually earned a coin in his life. ‘Shoulda ripped his throat out with your teeth like I told you,’ he continued. The solution to most thorny dilemmas – to squirrel cats anyway – is to walk up to the source of the problem and bite it very hard on the neck, preferably coming away with as much of its bleeding flesh as possible.

Four months in the borderlands had brought me to one irrefutable conclusion: I made a terrible outlaw. I couldn’t hunt worth a damn, got lost just about everywhere I went, and it seemed like every person I met found some perfectly sensible reason to try to rob me or kill me.
Sometimes both.

That explained the cloth covering her eyes. ‘You’re blind,’ I said.
‘No, you’re blind. I just can’t see.’ She turned to the woman. ‘What does he look like? He sounds stupid.’
‘Forgive my charge; we have been travelling many days now. These have been trying times for the child and she—’
‘Seneira,’ the girl said. ‘Not “my charge”, not “the child”. Seneira.’

I might have pressed her on the subject, but at that precise moment my eyes landed on Seneira for just a second. Apparently it was a second too long. ‘Are you staring again?’ She glowered.
Usually it takes people at least a full day to decide they dislike me, but Seneira clearly hadn’t wanted to wait that long. She seemed perpetually convinced that I was either leering or making fun of her. Usually it was neither. I just wasn’t used to being around someone my own age any more. It didn’t help that she was pretty either – way too pretty for me to be relaxed around her. Ferius said this might be a sign that I was developing a mental disorder and suggested I let her know if and when I noticed any additional symptoms.

‘Well, you’re even more boring than usual,’ he said, then hopped down from my shoulder and wandered off into the darkness. ‘I’m going to go murder something.’
‘It’s called hunting, you know.’
‘Not the way I do it.’

‘The seven talents of an Argosi wanderer are: Daring, to brave the world; Defence, to protect oneself and others; Eloquence, to communicate with strangers; Subtlety, to evade ensnarement; Resilience, to thrive anywhere; Persuasion, to compel right action; Perception, to see what others do not.’

She listened patiently to my litany of complaints about the horrors of the road, then said, ‘I’m sure that’s all true, Kellen, but you know what I think?’
‘What?’
She took my hands in hers, and then, as if she were fighting desperately to swim up from the bottom of a deep, dark lake, she kissed me for a long time. ‘I think no life can be so bad so long as you have someone to share it with.’

Like some elements more then the firs tone with better pace but bad mystery and bad antagonist but overall solid sequel.
