I enjoyed this sweet book, though I wish they could've told this story without the cheating aspect

"Bingo Love Volume 1" it's a book with a lot of heart. It follows the love story of Hazel and Mari, how they meet and how they get a second chance.

This edition adds some extra stories that give more context, which helps to deepen a story that felt short and rushed.

The art in the main comic is beautiful, the full pages are reallt pretty. The other stories have other artists and it has a hit or miss for me.

Regarding the story itself, considering how many pages it has the pace is uneven and none of the characters were fleshed out.
The beginning is solid but the separation and reunion happens too fast, there are many excuses to force them to be together (the husband's story, for example) and then it's a fast forward at the end.

In the epilogue they mention that it's part of the "afro futurism" genre, but there's only one scene on the subject and one extra comic, so nothing groundbreaking there.

Overall, a good idea and much-needed representation, but the execution didn't work for me.

Bingo Love was heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time. My heart ached watching Hazel and Mari marry people they didn’t love and living lives that they were not 100% happy with. But my heart soared when they reconnected and tried to navigate their love in the new millennium.

I loved the art style, the vibrant colors, and the diversity throughout story.  I love seeing older, Black sapphics in love. And more stories with older sapphic MCs in general please!

I highly recommend reading this particular edition because it contains additional stories that answers some questions you may have after you’ve finished reading.

I cried multiple times reading this short but sweet comic. I don't usually read sad queer lit, and the homophobia present here hurt. But it was a good kind of hurt, because this is history, and we shouldn't forget it.

There are so many various love equations and none of them are wrong.

I'm really, really glad I got the Jackpot Edition. Because I loved the main story and deeply appreciated the whole "it's never too late to turn your life around and be happy" theme, but at the same time, for a story covering several decades, it felt somewhat... rushed? Like, outside of several event sequences, most of the time the narrative just told me what happened, not how it happened. There were all those gaps that begged to be filled.

And then I got to the end of the book and there were all those neat little snippets by various authors that did fill all those gaps. Little slice-of-life bits focusing precisely on all the how's, fleshing out the characters and the relationships between them. All those bits truly made the book shine for me. I wish they could be spread out throughout the story.

Also, the art is so gorgeous and so vibrant, and the bittersweet ending was beautiful! <3

A very sweet story, if a little rushed in parts. Everyone needs more stories about queer Black elders!
