This book was a very well written and human centered piece about the people living on Tangier island. The interwoven historical story of the island was very well done, and the descriptions of everyday life make you want to visit the place-and eat a soft shelled crab!

Absolutely outstanding portrait of a vanishing slice of America slipping into the Chesapeake Bay at the hands of forces it refuses to acknowledge. Respectful portrayal of a people and a way of life likely doomed to be lost in less than two decades.

reading about people who live on an island vanishing due to global warming but yet refuse to believe global warming exists is a new level of angry for me

A well rendered profile of a community and its place in the face of climate change. It did go a little long, and I wanted a bit more of an authorial bite, but even still I enjoyed it quite a lot!

I loved this book. I typically read fiction books, but I was drawn to this for my love of the Chesapeake Bay. I fell in love with the real-life characters of this book. At times, I sorta felt like I was sitting in the room chewing the fat with the Tangiermen. The author, Earl Swift, had me feel like I was a fly on the wall many times, watching these small island folks live their lives. I truly hope that Tangier Island finds a happy ending.

Wow! This book was really good. I enjoyed every page of this story and I love the story it told. As someone who grew up on the shore it was really refreshing to hear all these perspectives and the story arc of the author's time on the island.
What a timely piece that I would recommend for anyone who cares about the shore, this island that is disappearing, and the people that are impacted by this.
