I checked this out of KU ages ago, because I'm a sucker for hockey romances and even though it's not something that would normally pull me in (new adult, surprise pregnancy), I thought I'd give it a try as Jacob Chance is a new author to me - and I'm glad I tried him out! While our hero and heroine were both young, when presented with the issue of an accidental pregnancy from a one night stand both stepped up to the plate and worked together, despite being in different areas. (The H is in Boston, the h is in Northern VA. I will say that it was a little weird reading about the heroine talking about Northern VA, since that's where I am, lol.) The conflict was solved by actual communication - who knew?? Honestly, I walked away from this book believing that if they were a real couple, they would work out. I immediately downloaded the second book, Iced, off of KU and will be reading that soon.

This book had so many good reviews so I was determined to continue even when I didn't feel connected to the characters. Try as I might, I just found it too boring and unrealistic.

These characters do not come across as college students at all, they have lives and relationships which would you might see in over 30's and it's a bit weird.

After the first interaction between the characters all chemistry is lost. It all seems stiff and forced.

Overall I just can't force myself to read this when it's not drawing or keeping my interest at all.

This was my first book by Jacob Chance and I really enjoyed it. This was also my first romance book written by a male author and it didn't disappoint. These characters Clancey and Tenley were so mature throughout this book and it was refreshing. This was a very sweet romance with some tension and angst, but overall it showed how healthy relationships/friendships work when both parties communicate. That is what I loved the most about this book. Their communication skills were excellent and just great to read in a book for once.

The side characters were great and this book did make me want to read more about them.

I will definitely be continuing the series.

Enjoyable
Low angst
Surprise pregnancy.
Sometimes their conversation felt alot like the acquaintances that they where rather than people who where falling in love, some conversations felt awkward and forced, besides that the book was decent, book like this are great "inbetween heavy books" reads.

I had high hopes . . .

As I’ve been on a sports romance kick lately, I had high hopes for CHECKED.

However, those were quickly dashed when I realized each page was 90% dialogue. Which, honestly, wouldn’t have been so bad if it was great dialogue.

It wasn’t.

I do think the depth of Clancy’s character was refreshing, though I wish the ending resolved Tenley’s issues with her mother. It feels like post-birth, her parents just disappeared.

The main protagonists are cute together, but, and I feel guilty for saying this, not memorable.

It’s not a bad book, by any means, but if someone asked me for a sports romance recommendation, CHECKED wouldn’t top my list.

. . . Spoiler:

Also, the epilogue suggests they’ve worked on their communication skills enough to now be happily married. If that’s the case, why did Tenley make the decision to stop birth control without first talking with Clancy?

It’s her body, yes, but they’re married. They’re partners. She doesn’t need his permission, but she definitely should speak to him about it so he is aware.

Checked is the first book I have read from Jacob Chance. It features characters from earlier books but is definitely a standalone.⁣

This book hooked me from the beginning. Clancy is super swoon-worthy. He was previously a player because “hockey is his girlfriend” and while this normally turns me off, Jacob Chance wrote him in a way that made him endearing rather than cocky. I also loved Tenley. She was confident and not at all needy or dramatic. Checked is super low angst which I really appreciated. I don’t think there needs to be serious drama for a romance book to be good. There was a little bit of drama because, hello, the main characters are in their early 20s. ⁣

You can see my full review at readwithrach.com, but overall I think this is a fantastic first book in the Boston Terriers Hockey series. Now I am going to go back and read the rest of Jacob Chance’s series.

This was pretty good, but could use some work. My biggest issue was that there was too much dialogue and not enough description. It would switch from scene to scene with no context for where you were or who you were with except for the conversation, which made it difficult for me to follow. It felt more like it was written for TV or a movie than a book.

YESSSSS!! I loved loved loved this book!! CHECKED is by far and away one of my favorite romantic comedies of 2019. Jacob Chance excels at writing romantic comedy, and he created something extremely special with CHECKED. What an incredible, heartfelt, sweet, dynamic, and SWOONY read this one is. I fell head over heels in love with the storyline and characters, as well as Jacob’s writing and brilliant sense of humor. I was hooked from beginning to end, and couldn’t have loved Clancy and Tenley’s story more.

Get ready to meet your new swoon-worthy book boyfriend because Clancy was freaking swoon-worthy as all get out! I dare anyone not to fall madly in love with Clancy Wilde. Unapologetic in his confidence to the point of cocky but with the biggest heart imaginable when it came to the right person. Seriously, I cannot wait for everyone to fall for Clancy. He's definitely arrogant and can be quite a handful but he's also the sweetest and the most loyal hero ever. I cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful this character is. Truly a standout hero in my opinion. Tenley was a firecracker and I loved her personality. She was kind yet outspoken, and I loved that she gave Clancy a run for his money. Tenley and Clancy’s chemistry together was on fire, and I loved how their relationship progressed throughout. I loved reading all of their playful, hilarious banter and interactions with each other. Clancy and Tenley have become one of my top favorite Jacob Chance couples, and it was an absolute delight reading their love story.

CHECKED is a sexy, addicting, swoon-worthy, laugh-out-loud MUST READ romantic comedy. I absolutely LOVED it! Jacob Chance outdid himself with Clancy and Tenley’s love story, and it has been one of my favorite romcoms from him to date. I loved the smiles, the emotions, the passion and just everything about this story. I went deep from the first chapter and did not come back to reality till I finished it. I didn't want it to end. Too good, too perfect and too great.
