i liked the author’s mix of personal story with more academic pieces and all the references to BIPOC scholars before her. i tried to write down some quotes, but accidentally saved them at like 570% on story graph so i think they got lost in the void.

talks about her experience growing up in LA during the LA riots through college/grad school to being a professor.

Yes, this book made me uncomfortable at times; I even entertained DNFing it at one point. But that isn’t how we learn and grow. As a fellow Gen-Xer, (two years older) I felt very connected to the author’s experience of the 90s. The author provides a unique journey through her life of seeming privilege of a POC
