4.5 stars. The only reason it didn't get 5 is because there is no way I can go through that emotional roller coaster again. Extremely well written and very much the turmoil I imagine a child going through in a similar situation. It was a bit fantastical at times, but I think that was more in play for the monster aspect. All in all, an amazing, gut wrenching read.

I don’t know what happened but a third if the way through the book it got incredibly good and I was gripped until the end. Very moving and surprises you.
