I've been waiting for Rio's story ever since the tragic betrayal that left him almost dead and MIDNIGHT RISING did not disappoint. Rio has a lot of anger and he's ready to just end everything and my heart is constantly breaking for his pain. He's hurting so much that he only knows how to lash out but the longer he spends around Dylan the more he starts to heal.

I did miss the charming and suave Rio that we saw in the very first book but by the end we started to see that Rio emerge. Helping that was Dylan's incredible compassion and her desire to help this new world she's found herself a part of. Dylan was a really enjoyable heroine; she's smart, genuine, and not afraid to stand up for herself. She is a fighter and so loyal to those she cares for.

MIDNIGHT RISING was a poignant and emotional read and focused more on Rio's recovery and his journey with Dylan rather than the overall Breed/Rogue story arc. That said, there is some development on the Rogue uprising and things are about to get really interesting!

Content Warning: Rio is struggling with PTSD, depression, and suicidal thoughts; Dylan's mom has cancer; references to experimentation and rape of kidnapped women

Eh. Reading these books are like binging a terrible soap opera that I don't have to get too invested in.

Not my favorite so far. I like where the story is going and it the back story is definitely keeping me interested. BUT - I felt the love came too quickly. I thought Gio would be more damaged from what happened to him and it would take a little bit longer for him to be "okay." But I liked Dylan, just didn't feel as connected to her as I have with some of the other leading ladies. They make a good match just would have liked there to be a blossoming of sorts instead of the quick and dirty.

I can't say it enough times. I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!!!!! In a previous book, Rio was injured badly and his heart crushed. He can find no reason to keep going and takes an opportunity to solve his life issues. He finds himself in a cave with a job to do.

Dylan is traveling Europe with some of her mother's friends, living the life her mom is too ill to enjoy. Her breed mate talent is one that will lead her to Rio and the story of her career.

This is a story that was filled with action. The evil in the world is getting closer. Dylan's life is at risk. It will take Rio's love and more to save her. Get ready to bite your nails and shake in fear.

11/06/19 The audio edition really brought this story to life. Oh My Goodness!!!

This book was possibly my favorite out of the series. I loved Rio and Dylan seemed like the perfect match. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys romance and vampires, it's definitely worth reading.

Read a bunch of these over winter break. They are solid choices for brain candy over a vacation, but don't stand up to being read back to back. I got really tired of the premise, writing, and in fact the whole series by book 4.

On the other hand, up until that point I was tearing through these at the rate of one a day, so maybe that was for the best.

Not really a challenging read. For what it's worth, book 4 successfully cured me of my desire to read vampire novels for a while.

Didn't like it as much as previous volumes. Was too predictable, knew who the villain was way before, but I'm still interested on reading more. I do like the world.
