The first story, The Fall of Earth, was a good companion to the Dark Nights Death Metal event and it isn't necessary to read the event itself to enjoy this story. I liked how it was told from the perspective of a person that seems to be not quite involved in the events but still tied to them somehow. The rest of the book, however, felt like unnecessary.
