Rarely does a sequel surpass its predecessor - but this book is definitely more interesting and creative than its predecessor. Best of all, it has an actual plot (the first book was focused largely on world-building). In fact, it has two plots, which only come together at the very end, to set the stage for the next book in the series - which I checked out as soon as I finished this one.

It's a fun enough read, all the characters are annoyingly stupid sometimes but that's par for the course in this genre.

It took me far longer to get around to this second novel of the Magic 2.0 series, which I started last year. I'm not quite sure what my hesitation was, but it ended up being a fun edition to my October reads! These books are such a fun and silly twist on sci-fi/fantasy novels. The author does a wonderful great job of creating something new out of his very obvious love for all things geeky. The time-travel aspect is fun, and I love that he consistently points out and even makes fun of the paradoxes that just work because they have to for the novel. I'm excited to see what the third one has in store for us... hopefully it doesn't take me quite so long to get to as this one did!

These books are brilliant. The humor and dialog is fantastic. I love the idea of the simulation and I even enjoy the paradoxs that are setup and just work somehow. It's a fun quick read and enjoyable all the way through.

Amazing but confusing

When dealing with alternate time lines and realities things get kind of confusing, no matter how many times I reread.

But what isn't confusing is how fun and creative this book is.

If you need a quick palette cleanse sit down for a few hours and try to wrap your head around this witty read

Book: A sequel to Off to Be the Wizard, the story continues to follow Martin, Phillip, Gwen, and Jimmy, as well as a variety of other familiar and new characters. An easy, light read with occasional laugh-out-loud moments.

Audiobook: The narrator (Luke Daniels) was fantastic with improvising distinct voices for each character, so you know exactly who is talking at all times - and it's entertaining. The only hiccup is that he says the words "s/he said" in the exact some tone of voice and prosody every. single. time. This gets a bit distracting but occurs less in this book than the previous.

Keeps up with the fantastic comedy of the first and adds to the world building. Amazing.

Spell or High Water would benefit from a proofreader to smooth over some of the spelling mistakes and wrong words used (Looking at you, "banzai tree").
The beginning and the end are entertaining but the middle part feels much more difficult to get through.
Yet there is still a lot of humor in the writing and the dialog is quippy and smart with iconic lines that made me laugh out loud.
It was also interesting to see how the characters dealt with people that have met them but they themselves have not yet met, time shenanigans and all.
I feel a bit sad that this installment had no illustrations as they have added to the atmosphere and tone of the first part and enhanced it greatly.
All in all, it was okay.
