I am the storm gives kids a way to talk about their feeling about storms. This gorgeous picture book looks at the many ways kids and their families handle disaster and fear. Good conversation starter about fear and also about taking back your own power.

A gorgeous picture book that explains several types of natural disasters (tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, and snowstorms) in a way young children will understand. We also follow multiple diverse families as they endure each of these disasters in their own way.

The illustrations are wonderful, the families pictured are diverse, and the suggestions for handling the disasters are safe and appropriate. This books empowers children to "weather the storm" with grace and dignity, understanding that the are strong enough to handle it. Highly recommended!

This is a gorgeous book. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is strong. It is about different kinds of storms, but reminds that all storms come to an end. At the end it explains different types of storms. The images really make this book. Lovely to read and a joy to all. I will be keeping this in my readers advisory repertoire.

If you're an adult, you'll love this!
It has calm and sweet feeling about it.
For a 4yo niece, though, who takes everything as it is, it's not as exciting as she prefers.

3.5 - beautiful book that carries a message of resilience and perseverance, but falls a bit flat in that it does a fair bit of glossing the damage and loss and trauma these sorts of storms or natural disasters can cause. I appreciate the intent, but it feels a bit.... off.

I really appreciate the layered messages in this book, ranging from disaster preparedness to knowing it's okay to feel afraid. The informational section at the end is short but satisfying for those interested in learning more about extreme weather, though I wish it had citations and some further reading suggestions. Beautiful illustrations.

Thanks to Edelweiss for an advance digital copy.

This brings back lots of memories of playing bird games by candlelight after a hurricane and gathering by the fireplace in a blizzard. Lots of fun information here to calm children easily scared by weather!

I was a bit perplexed by comparing scary weather to children who are also the storm? It’s why I can’t give it 5 stars. But an empowerment message is always nice.
