"When you are born," the Golem said softly, "your courage is new and clean. You are brave enough for anything."

September is a well-spoken girl from Omaha who wishes nothing more but for adventures and more excitement in her life.. When the Green Wind happens to be right in front of her window and she gets shipped off to the Fairyland...

For me the beginning wasn't as captivating but it progressed through the middle. There were a few things I liked about this story.
One of them is the concept of the Nasnas (they are like ying and yang, half-half, and together they are neither).
Second the twist of the antagonist, the Marquess, which made it more believable. Third there were some nice quotations in here that I liked.

September was a little girl from Omaha who was whisked off to Fairyland by The Green Wind, riding upon his companion, The Leopard of Gentle Breezes. Once there, she meets A-through-L, a Wyvern who calls himself a Wyverary, and later she frees a Marid called Saturday.

This is labeled a children's book, but it could also be enjoyed by adults. There are a few dark aspects to it, but, if you want a lighter read, this is it.

I must admit that I did not know what to make of this book at first. It seemed a bit silly but not in a good way. The author read it herself and didn't start out doing that good a job. But there was enough there to keep me listening. maybe it was because the wind was green. Maybe it was because our heroine lost her shoe. (which never bodes well)

And I am certainly glad I kept listening! The reading got better, for one thing. And. more importantly, I fell into the rhythm of the story. The cant of the words. The feel of the world being built before my eyes.

And it's a world well worth exploring.

I want to revisit this when I have the mental capacity to enjoy this fun and whimsical story. I was loving it, it's just not the right time.

I was reminded of The Phantom Tollbooth, which is another book that I didn't fancy.

4.5 stars without question. I loved it. It whimsical, mysterious, dark, and beautifully written. In the beginning I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. It's marketed as "middle grade," but I don't know that I would let anyone under the age of 12 (or older if they're are very imaginative) read it. It has quite a few things in it that could cause nightmares. Once I realized that I was able to thoroughly enjoy it. September is a one-of-a-kind character. She's human and she's flawed, but she is also one of the more genuine characters I've come across. It's a great book for a series beginning, and I'm already wanting to read it again. I'll definitely be picking up the rest.

Alice in Wonderland meets Wizard of Oz. Fun, clever and colorful. This could make a very cool movie...
