The horror elements were too much of the story for me. In the first book I just skipped over the fight scenes, in the second I wasn't comfortable but tried not to think about it too much, and hoped it was just that book, but here there were too many gory, disgusting, disturbing and otherwise awful scenes to slog through, and I just didn't enjoy the experience. I like the characters, I like the world, but spending such a large amount of time trapped in horrific circumstances just doesn't make for a positive reading experience for me.
Graphic: Body horror, Confinement, Death, Gore, Physical abuse, Suicidal thoughts, Torture, Violence, and Vomit
Moderate: Adult/minor relationship, Eating disorder, Infertility, Blood, Cannibalism, and Fire/Fire injury
