Sapkowski walked so George R.R. Martin could run. If you've not read the previous Witcher books you'll be lost as hell, but if so, you'll likely bloody love it. Closest thing I can describe it as is Apocalypse Now with swords.

I love the bleak war ravaged world in this book. I thought the chaos of war and the ambiguity of good and bad sides was awesome. But the writing style for the political portions of this book really drag the story down. I also think this one probably suffered the most in translation.
