I didn’t connect with the characters as much in this one, but it was definitely still a good read.

There was a lot more action in this book than the previous ones, and there were a few scenes that had me on the edge of my seat. Tears may have been shed at some point, but I also think something was missing here that wasn’t in the previous. I love the first discovery of different species. Once they already know things, there’s not much more to discover. This one, like the last one had small little things but not so much as book one since these guys have been around humans for a while now.

I did like the addition of the dancing, I wish it was a bigger part of it and had more detail and time spent showing it, and I loved seeing him be so chuffed a female was providing for him but again, I wish it was a BIG thing not just a small part.

Was looking for something different so I tried this, while it wasn't what I was looking for, it still was an amazing read. This being the fourth book (truth be told I was looking for a new series to read and wanted to read one that had the highest rating to see if it would be worth it) the world building has already been there but it didn't hinder anything. There was still a lot of building which helped greatly you didn't have to assume anything. The story was very dense, probably not the right word but the only one I can think of, and made a very good story.

Might come back to this series, I liked all the characters and now that the 'big conflict' that took four books to finish was done it'll be interesting to see where the story goes now.

Daddy Dracchus, my gigantic kraken beloved, finally got his HEA and I devoured ittttttttt.

This is slow burn + true enemies to lovers because he’s a kraken and she’s essentially a monster hunter who thinks the kraken murdered her brother. I mean they didn’t. He literally just fell in love with a hot kraken lady. But our FMC didn’t know that. I get it.

But! Once we get our MCs together under the sea in the kraken’s stronghold, it’s forced proximity goodness with…Dracchus forcing the proximity LOL dude is like “you’re my mate and this is our den” and Larkin is like “???? It’s been 2 days, sir”. Does Dracchus care? No. He took one look at Larkin’s badassery and went “mine”. Love that for our big guy.

I also appreciated how Larkin’s personal struggle was handled. And I loved that it wasn’t magically solved by a monster mate, which tends to be par for the course in alien/monster romance. But Tiffany and Robert really focused on the found family in this one and I think it made it all the sweeter. Highly recommend.

ALSO more kraken babies!!!! Gimme all the kraken babies omg so cute.

This is by far my favorite in the series so far! I'd been craving for Dracchus' story for a long while and Tiffany Roberts did not disappoint.

Larkin has been my favorite heroin too! I loved her character and the change in dynamic to someone who is the love interest for Dracchus and also a hunter and a warrior and a royal pain in his ass.

I also loved the detail of Larkin's accident and its consequences, along with Dracchus' journey reconciling that knowledge to the future he had imagined and hoped for. It was refreshing and heart-warming and absolutely beautiful.

The big conflict that finally ensued in this book and the family dynamics between all our humans and our favorite kraken made this book a wholesome and incredible experience.

I think, all in all, this book was particularly entwined with some very important lessons about real life and the acceptance of "the other", along with the challenge of breaking away from many traditional roles and expectations in such complex situations as building a family and its various definitions.

Hands down, Tiffany Roberts best work yet.

4½⭐︎ rounded up.

Dracchus has been my favorite since the first book—I am a sucker for a grumpy-ass wall of a man who has a secret soft middle—and I am so happy I stuck through these long enough to read about him.

I rather liked Elle/Larkin. She's definitely vulnerable with one throbbing sore spot, but she's also capable, collected, methodic, and has a strong moral compass. Okay, and a very big chip on her shoulder from having to prove her entire life that she's capable and not just having things handed to her because of who her father is. Sexism is alive and well 360+ years in the future and far from this world. Bummer. One of the strengths of this series is the trend of heroines who are vulnerable but still stable and grounded. It's nice to see women written as people instead of hormonally charged balls of emotional whip-lash who giggle and squeak and whine and whimper and... and... and.

The main conflict for the couple in this one is a topic I'm never keen on—
SpoilerHe wants BABIES but she is BROKEN and BARREN, OH NOEZ.
—but it's resolved pretty quickly and satisfactorily. Had it been more drawn out, I would have rated this story lower because needless drama is so annoying, but there's just enough of it to get an eye roll and then move along to more important things.

Of the 4 Kraken books up to this point, this one is the darkest. That doesn't mean it *is* a dark story, just that it has a far less carefree bent than the other three. The second half of this book is kinda heavy with the whole schism within Kraken society that's been prying open since Macy's arrival, and the resolution isn't the best possible outcome, but the reckoning came and most are still around. This story ends on an overall hopeful note and a HEA/HFN for the couples.
