Oh wow, this was a dense one.

I really enjoyed a lot of things about this book, and I would def feel differently about this if I was a queer Chinese woman, so for that alone I am so happy this book exists today.

The first third and last third of the book I think we’re the strongest, but the middle is where I lost the most interest and think could have been more concise. The last part of the story was the most thrilling and kept my attention the most.

Overall, an excellent story, and important read for so, so many people.

lily and kath my beloveds! finally finished reading this one and my heart is in pieces on the floor. reading this story as a lesbian made me ache all over because it just hurts knowing that lesbians before me had it so so hard. just found out about homophobia… not good! the side characters — mainly lana jackson — were wonderful and i loved the atmosphere of the telegraph club itself. i did find that the flashback parts involving lily’s family took me out of the story a bit? but it wasn’t that much of an issue tbh. also, though this isn’t the fault of the book, i feel like the ending has been misconstrued when people recommend this — all i’ve heard is how it has a happy ending, but i definitely think it’s more bittersweet than anything else.

overall i really loved reading this and i’m sad it’s over!! kathleen miller i will see you in my dreams.
