A quick read and my second time trying a Lovecraft story.
SpoilerNot sure if this can be considered a spoiler but just in case... From the very beginning, I kept getting old fashioned vampire vibes from this and the ending when the body in the coffin was revealed (for the second time) pretty much solidified the vampire feel to this. And didn't old stories of vampires also include wolves/werewolves who howled at night?
Overall it was vaguely creepy but not enough to actually make me scared. I'd also forgotten just how much Lovecraft's writing seemed to enjoy long sentences and equally long words.

I enjoyed this particular work of Lovecraft's. It was appropriately creepy with descriptions of the ghoul and was a quick read. I still think my favorite work of Lovecraft that I have read thus far is The Nameless City, but I have many more works to read. Overall worth a quick read.

I only read this because the book I was reading kept mentioning it LOL. I guess I expected something that felt instantly groundbreaking to any uninitiated to Lovecraft but I felt no such thing. Had to do a little research to appreciate this more and I guess I do already. There is camp.
