A wonderfully energetic telling of the famous Pullman Strike of 1894. Kelly does a good job at developing the events in a narrative fashion, so that the reader can feel suspense, surprise, and generally ride along with the emotional journey of the events. Fantastic primer on the Pullman Strike.

This is a pretty fast paced book. I never felt stuck in a moment or like I wished the author would just get on with it already. And it's so interesting. I hadn't known much about this topic for this era, so learning about this movement and what lead up to it was great. The individuals involved seem bigger than life now, and some seemed that way even then. The actions of the courts and the government are so notable and worth learning from. Towards the end of the book, seeing the lines of all this traced forward in time, the impacts, how other things happened to change it, it helps make it all even more real. This was a very well done book.
