This isn't really a book to read through, it's a book to pick up for inspiration when you feel like you need to take some control by establishing more order in your house or your life. Very much in the Marie Kondo-style, though more free and forgiving and open. Was hoping for more of a readable book (in line with Rubin's Happiness Project).

Helpful to listen to the things we all already know around clearing clutter and why, but I do wish it would have been a little more in depth on the neuroscience behind visual clutter. A lot of tips though in case you haven’t watched The Home Edit or Marie Kondo.

I found this book very basic, contradictory on places and because of the lack of inspiration within the text I am more than a little disappointed. Having listened to Gretchen on the 10% Happier podcast I thought I would give her a try. I think Gretchen said all everything in a better medium on the podcast rather than in the book. Gretchen refers to the KonMari method and for me that is a much better way to do things than the lacklustre lazy way spoken about in this book

This book is jam packed with information and useful tips for cultivating a more organised environment, in order to create calm and peace within.
My one issue is that I often read when I am travelling or away from home and a lot of the information I wanted to action immediately and was not able to, so definitely bear that in mind when choosing your reading location! Overall a fantastic book, I will definitely be picking up some of Gretchen's other titles.

As far as decluttering goes, Rubin brings nothing new to the table. What she shines at, however, is the psychological benefits of decluttering and neatening, and some tips as to how to go about it according to your personality style (surprisingly important). This is short and sweet and if you really just need a pep talk, this is the book for you. Her upbeat optimist shines through in a way that will make it feel less like torture and more like a treat for yourself.

Lots of useful tips on decluttering and stuff but I like Gretchen Rubin's books because I like reading about how she implements her ideas and there was none of that in this book, nothing personal, so it fell flat for me.

Quick one page tips on how to create, store, and maintain your stuff. If you read a lot of cleaning and organizing books, much will be repeated, but there are a few original gems worth checking out.
