I read somewhere that someone said that this book felt like a "self-help book" and another person said that it "felt like reading someone's diary." I feel that both of these statements are true. Though I did not rate the book that high, (I don't really like poetry), Mateer is the only poet recently that got me sucked into their book. I love Greek Mythology, so reading from the POV of Aphrodite was really nice. This was a great book, and felt very personal to the author.

I really wanted to love it, and it has some excellent poems in the Aphrodite sections. It's the other sections that pull the book down.

I wish I had discovered this poet, this collection sooner. She put words to feelings I’ve been holding for ages with no language available to express them. I am so grateful for this exploration into abuse and violence and the capability for righteous defiance to it through the continued act of love. I’ll be thinking about this for the rest of my life.
