This wasn't for me. I'm usually a poetry hater and really can only stomach it if it has a comedic edge which this certainly doesn't so the odds of me liking it were already against it. I think it is well written and used the medium well and is very honest and vulnerable on the part of the author. I liked how Aphrodite is portrayed and what love can encompass, and in my opinion the best parts were the reinterpretation of mythology. I liked the section about her mother and the art used and the tarot cards picked (though some were better picked than others. My main problem was it felt very feminism 101. Very barbie movie, woman's march core. A lot of the conclusions drawn are very necessary but as someone with a degree in gender studies, I was like well yeah. I'm glad the author seemed to work out a lot through writing this but I would rather have a narrative than notes from a therapy session.

I wish I had discovered this poet, this collection sooner. She put words to feelings I’ve been holding for ages with no language available to express them. I am so grateful for this exploration into abuse and violence and the capability for righteous defiance to it through the continued act of love. I’ll be thinking about this for the rest of my life.
