I really enjoyed this one, but I would be lying if I said it didn't piss me off. The person they were supposed to be saving in this book was, in my opinion, the villain, and he doesn't get any type of punishment! The person who they made the "real villain" honestly deserved to get revenge and I sided with them more, but whatever. If that makes me a bad person for thinking so, then so be it. Also, it seems that a few of the men in the series so far seem to think it’s perfectly okay to cheat on their spouses openly with no consequences, which just baffles me! Over all, I did like the mystery in the book, just not the majority of the men, but despite that I am excited to continue the series.

This was an excellent follow-up to the first book. I think that despite it covering less ground and having a bit less adventure, I actually liked this one more. I loved seeing the bond between Veronica and  Stoker. Despite their bickering and sexual tension, they make a great investigative team and have a lot of deep trust and respect for each other, which is lovely to see.

It's been some time since I finished this (I've been procrastinating on reviews...) so I can't say much about the plot. I'm guilty of not paying enough attention to the details, even though this is more of a proper mystery than the first book, which is a good thing.  I've been considering switching to the ebook so I can retain the details better, but I love the audiobook narration too much.

The development in Stoker and Veronica's relationship, though. Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! They are what I'm really here for, I'm not ashamed to admit it! We finally get Stoker flirting back, and then some acknowledgement of what they have, and then some angst....ooooh, that was delicious. I need more! This would make a great TV series.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series. However, in this one, the characters seem to change drastically. Stoker becomes a prude, with more of a sidekick role.  Veronica mentions experiences that she has had (including shipwrecks, cannibalism, and even killing someone) that seem much more intense than alluded to in the first book.  She becomes an unlikable know-it-all who has apparently experienced everything there is to experience and is perfect at it all.
