The book is on only a meh for me. I was really disappointed that the title and story didn't match. I thought this was going to be about someone with synesthesia who becomes an art detective. It's not. It's a bout an art detective on the fringes. But mostly it was about a maid who becomes an art dealer. There is a mystery in there as well but the synesthesia is only mentioned in passing. The writing had some issues as well. Over all it was disappointing.

3.5 stars for this one. I enjoyed the story, but wanted more about the character's synesthesia. It only came up a few times and makes me curious as to why the author gave the book the title she did. A good read if you're looking for a nice fiction surrounding the truth of the Nazis and art.

This was a great book. I wish it was based on a true story instead of just real early twentieth century artists, their works, and the horror that was Nazi Germany.

Чудесна! Историята е много красива и разказана стегнато, без излишно увъртане.

If Nicholas Sparks were to write a history of Nazi Germany, this would be it. However, the treatment of modern (aka. "Degenerate") art under Hitler and how some tried to save it was interesting. It prompted me to look up works by Paul Klee and Gustav Klimt and order a couple of prints. The frame story with Lauren and Isabella was dry and uninteresting. The author tried to imbue it mystery and tension and failed. Hanna's story was much more compelling.

I really liked the plot of this story as well as the characters. The character development was top notch. The story was one I don't remember ever hearing about before, letting alone reading, so it was refreshing to encounter some actual creativity. My only complaint is that there was a lot of telling as oppose to showing in the descriptions of things and that made it tedious at times. Overall, though, it was a great story.
