It's scary how much excessive possessiveness and abuse of power and money is romantisized in this book. The MMC Rowan is a walking red flag who doesn't care about anyone but himself – and maybe his closest family –  and is comfortable with using any means necessary to get what he wants. Rowan doesn't even consider the impact his actions have on others unless he has something
*cough* someone *cough*
to lose if he doesn't. 🚩🚩🚩

The FMC and love interest Zahra is represented as the "relatable" good girl with a humble background and altruistic sunshiney nature. She resists an idea of any involvement with Rowan because he is her boss,
but after a short while gives the resistance up because Rowan implies she should
. However, Zahra's character fails to be lovable in her overflowing altruistic righteousness that is forgotten as soon as
Rowan comes around to hijack her into the luxurious lifestyle a billionaire can provide on a whim
. Zahra is willing to let go almost all of her agency for
Rowan's love
. That kind of unbalanced power dynamic just makes things very dangerous, and not in a good way.

     "It's cute that you think you have a choice."

Even though this is fiction, I could not let the possessiveness, the abuse of power and money, and unbalanced relationship dynamic pass; I felt uncomfortable throughout a big portion of reading this book. Luckily I read other books in this series (and a few other Asher's series) first, and can safely say that things get better. This might be the only one of Asher's books that I actually dislike.

The book lost a bit of its shine for me because Rowan had to rely on Zahra to learn how to be more human. It would have been more impactful if he had realized the poor conditions of his workplace on his own. That said, I did feel a pang of sympathy for him, especially given his difficult family situation, which I can relate to personally.

On a brighter note, I’m really looking forward to meeting Iris. However, my hopes aren’t particularly high for Declan.

Rowan Kane the man that you are ‼️ 
This was a really good read! I don’t tend to reach for billionaire romances so this was new for me but I really enjoyed it. I liked how Rowan worked through his own issues to make Zahra happy in the end !

lots of overused tropes (grumpy x sunshine, rich ceo x poor girl, miscommunication). it felt like the author tried to include everything to appeal to more people but it was just not it. there were cute moments but would i read it again? no.

Rowan, a billionaire tasked by his grandfather to make Dreamland great again. 

Zahra, an average gal just trying to overcome the betrayal she faced with her ex. 

"I gave up the person I was for a man who couldn't handle the woman I was meant to be." -Zahra

Sparks fly between Rowan and Zahra and neither of them can understand or explain why. 

"He's the Devil, Zahra. Well, that explains why Eve fell for his tricks. If the devil looked half as good as Rowan, I'd eat the damn apple too. Screw the consequences." -Zahra 

Rowan is determined to get his task done that his grandfather left him to do after passing. At what cost though? As it turns out being a billionaire isn't always as awesome as it sounds... Ridiculously Awesome that is.

Zahra however, is a breath of fresh air. A creative. A free spirit. She goes above and beyond. She will be the way Rowan accomplishes his goals. Hell, she was already working with his grandfather before he passed. 

"I officially need to find out what kind of woodland fairies raised this woman because there's no way she's a product of the real world." -Rowan

Rowan realizes that he can't be himself with Zahra. Well, more like he doesn't want to. He doesn't want to be the same guy he was before they met. 

"Because to love someone else means to trust them enough to not abuse the power they have over you." -Rowan

I loved Zahra and her personality and I loved the character development she caused Rowan to experience. This is the classic grumpy x sunshine trope and I really adored the side characters in this book as well. I was slightly underwhelmed within the middle of the book but I pushed through and I enjoyed the last 50 pages worth. I will be continuing the series because I'm interested in seeing Declan and Cal's stories.
