This “mom-com” is so relatable. The main character experiences up and downs of all relationships in her life both romantic and platonic. I love that she realizes some relationships are seasonal and some are forever.

uhhhh
WOW ok ok ok ok.

I always feel bad rating a book low, especially when it's a debut! I don't want to hurt the author's feelings!! But I am so sorry I really did not like this

So I’m not going to lie. I literally initially read this book by the cover. And I assumed it was going to be a romcom sort of book. Chick lit. But the subject matter was much heavier than the synopsis led me to believe. The story was definitely a darker side of friendships, at least the emotional toll they can have.

In 1 million years, I would never put up with what the main character put up with -but then I guess you would have no story. I listened to this book on audio, and it was easy listening. I just went and thinking it was going to be one story and it was completely different.

Oh, the sweet innocence of childhood - right before the world smacks you upside the head with the things you never saw coming, and you're never the same after.

This is probably the best debut novel I've read in a while. Annie Cathryn if you're planning to continue to write books, just as amazing as this one, you'll become one of my favorite authors.

"The Friendship Breakup" is basically everything you could imagine - full of emotions, relatable moments, and eye-opening on the importance of good, healthy friendships.
Throughout the story I found myself comparing my life to Fallon's and even though I'm 20 years younger than the main character we have a lot in common.

One of the aspects that really made me love the book was seeing Fallon grow into a better woman. Sure, she had some ups and downs but she is an inspiration. She fought for her marriage, she decided to go into therapy, she discovered some things about her past that she was putting out, and she followed her dream even when her "friends" didn't encourage her to do it.

It's a really good read for long nights or maybe a walk in a park once the weather gets better. I think it might become a bestseller once we will find the book in store!

thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books | Alcove Press for the e-arc. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is poorly written, incredibly juvenile, and a terribly unconvincing perspective from the main character who is supposedly a 39 year old woman. There is a stream of consciousness throughout the book which is full of clichés and I can’t help but wonder where the editor was on this one.

I won this arc in a goodreads giveaway and while I’m so thankful for having the opportunity to read it, I feel so guilty for not liking it. 🥲
There were times the writing was absolutely beautiful, like when Fallon found the perfect place to run her chocolate business. And the themes of moving on in relationships is a very potent one.
However, a lot of the time, the writing did feel juvenile. A lot could have been fixed by the characters actually talking with each other. I thought some of the reactions of the adult characters were either too unrealistic or too on the nose (specifically the therapy sessions). I also found the children characters to act unrealistically, too mature and well-behaved from my point of view, while also saying things that had them seem younger than seven.
And I think, as a whole, this book wasn’t for me. I think some of the themes, like the marital problems and menopause, I’m too young to truly appreciate, and then the way they acted I was too old to appreciate.
Just because this wasn’t for me doesn’t mean others won’t enjoy it though. I see plenty of four star reviews here, and maybe I missed something, but I think it generally comes down to me being not the right target audience and not what I expected (I expected a general fading out instead of a massive falling out in friends).

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media Audio for the advance copy of this audiobook for review.
The Friendship Breakup is more than a story of a friendship ending. Fallon finds herself being ghosted by her best friend. This is a journey of repairing friendships, discovering new relationships, and how to navigate adult life. The narration was excellent and I would recommend this to other readers.
