i read this book because i really enjoyed it in middle school, but it's quite disappointing. to me, the "mystery" wasn't one that had me invested. The plot went too fast for us to truly think and come up with good evidence for why a character could have been the killer. If the book was longer, i think it could have had potential. as for romance, i'm very glad it wasn't a main plot point that ended up overruling the plot. however, the romance felt very underdeveloped. romance can still be a subplot while still being a developed relationship. there are also a few issues i had in regards to the way some characters were talked about. there were multiple sentences about weight and race that left a bad taste in my mouth. so many things were not handled as they should have been, such as grief and the things that come after. this book is clearly meant for younger audiences, but it was fun to reread years later, nonetheless.
